Position : Student Minister
Status: Full-Time, Salaried
Work Hours: 40+ Hours per week

General Purpose of Position
The Student Minister builds young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive, balanced student ministry—focused on group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach. This role serves as a spiritual leader, mentor, and role model for students, empowering families and volunteers while helping students grow in their relationship with Jesus and respond to His call to serve.
Organizational Relationship & Supervision
The Student Minister reports to the Lead Minister for spiritual and ministry guidance.
The Lead Minister, in cooperation with the Elders, conducts annual performance evaluations.
This position operates under Bible-based polity and doctrine and is expected to attend:
- Weekly Staff Meetings
- Board Meetings
- Elder’s Meetings
- Annual Congregational Meeting
Primary Ministry Focus
The Student Minister oversees ministries for all students (7–12th Grade), ensuring that programs and environments:
- Love students where they are
- Encourage spiritual growth and a personal relationship with God
- Provide opportunities for discipleship, leadership development, and service
- Challenge students to live out their faith in their church, community, and world
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
1. Pastoral Leadership & Mentorship
- Advocate for students by educating the congregation about their hopes, concerns, and needs.
- Mentor students in developing leadership skills and spiritual maturity.
- Provide pastoral presence in our school and community.
- Equip and resource parents to support faith development at home.
- Empower and support Adult Student Coaches in shepherding/mentoring students.
2. Teaching & Program Implementation
- Plan, develop, and implement a balanced student ministry program.
- Lead weekly high school student programming and major student events (CIY, Believe, mission trips, retreats, etc.).
- Coordinate and oversee Sunday School curriculum and teacher recruitment.
- Train and equip volunteers for teaching, small-group leadership, and mentorship roles.
- Remain aware of ministry resources and participate in continuing education, conferences, and trainings.
3. Administration & Coordination
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers; ensure proper adult-to-student ratios.
- Maintain accurate records of student participation and manage the student ministry budget.
- Ensure strict adherence to the Child Protection Policy in all student environments.
- Communicate clearly and promptly via email, website, newsletter, bulletin, etc.
- Collaborate with staff and leadership, supporting an aligned, team-centered ministry approach.
- Participate in annual vision and goal evaluation for student ministry and help lead monthly planning meetings.
4. Outreach & Community Engagement
- Develop and implement a strategic outreach plan to reach unchurched students in the community.
- Serve as a liaison between the church and local schools, ministries, organizations, and community resources.
- Engage actively in the community through school involvement, sporting events, mentoring, and area ministries.
- Encourage and mobilize church members to bless students and families (tutoring, mentoring, service projects, volunteer opportunities).
Preferred Qualifications & Requirements
- A clear calling by God to student ministry.
- Commitment to Christian Church/Church of Christ doctrine and theology.
- Bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry, Theology, Christian Education, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience working with students in a ministry setting.
- Strong organizational, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
- Skills in conflict management, leadership development, and basic computer/software use.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, equip, and lead teams of volunteers.
- Ability to work effectively with students and adults from diverse backgrounds.
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check and comply with the Child Protection Policy.
